Dubai is the 1950's.

When I traveled South America people told me Argentina is like America in the 1950’s. I also heard this about Australia. Apparently, because a friend of a friend went to Oz and tried to hail a cab, and the cabs would only stop for men. I disagree.

Dubai, however, is much like a brand new city that went up fifty years ago. Here is my evidence so far;

-everyone smokes (ash trays are viewed as a table assessorie instead of an eye sore)

-guys hold the door open and wait for you to walk through first

-no women rights (i’m gonna get shit for this one)

-attendants pump gas for you at the “petrol” station

-everyone eats fast food

-guys always foot the bill

-no sidewalks

-no bums

-anything to do with government paperwork is a big hairy mess

-people are actually afraid of the police

-everyone pays in cash, never credit

-people go to banks, like walk in their local bank (who knows for what?

-people talk on the phone for a long time

-better life/work balance, people know how to slow down here

-family is a huge priority (men love their mothers)

-people don’t yell when they talk

Disclaimer: this is, yet another, subjective generalization I made up. Enjoy.
