The Slaves of Dubai. When I was there they looked happy, but in essense not allowed to look sad.
Sad, sad, sad.
I’m not a fan of a lot of government. But in this case they need to step in. Or else they are a city of skeletons building the world’s largest ghost town.

As I continue to talk about Dubai, my friend who is studying to be an entertainment lawyer said that Dubai will be the next Hollywood. She wants to come back with me but takes the bar in Winter. Is Dubai the upcoming new Hollywood where stars can’t die of an overdose? No taxes. Is it no residuals too? Hmm…

I left 3/15, this article was published the next day. Coincidence? (ha j/k)
So, no dancing? No mini skirts? No public hugging? I don’t know this Barbara from the AP, but I do know other journalists from the AP. Let me just say, this article needs more research. Plus I’m sick of this angle. Dubai restricts fun - oooh wow. Shocker. They should visit a real Muslim city. Now THAT would be...
How to wear hijab →
I’m not kidding, one of my Mom’s co-workers thinks you have to wear these over here. And I quote; “…we wanna be wrapped up right when we go out visiting.” It is the best joke you can play on people visiting you in the middle east. We pranked Christine & Jamie big time.
FYI wearing a head scarf is only tradition. Women did it way back when in the desert days to protect their eyes and hair from...
Taste of Dubai →
Josh really wants to go to the Gordon Ramsey restaurant here, but at a dinner party last night Deger said to try this. So we get to taste test several chef’s food! Yum!
Last day here and I’m going to eat my way through it. But first we are off to the mosque, kamara souk and then Taste of Dubai.

Dubai is the 1950's.
When I traveled South America people told me Argentina is like America in the 1950’s. I also heard this about Australia. Apparently, because a friend of a friend went to Oz and tried to hail a cab, and the cabs would only stop for men. I disagree.
Dubai, however, is much like a brand new city that went up fifty years ago. Here is my evidence so far;
-everyone smokes (ash trays are viewed...

Expats leaving Dubai? →
The comments below this article are better than the article. The article states that there are 3,000 abandoned cars in Dubai from expats escaping debt. Some claim only 11 abandoned cars, others say 200. Either way I doubt its 3,000.
Mostly all of these articles claim the glamour and glitz is leaving Dubai. Which makes me wonder, where the hell are these people going? A recent AdAge article...

Monica found this in a boat magazine at the laundromat and said the photos were amazing. Knowing how much Josh loves his boat porn (see his favorite boat the Maltese Falcon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Mvu57FP3c or the video of the Mirabellahe watches on repeat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7dGFxyM_Aw&feature=related) I know he will be so bummed when he finds out he missed this by a...

La la la.
Trying to speak Arabic is like trying to whistle for the first time. It doesn’t seem to make any sense and is, at first, slightly embarrassing. Personally, I gave up. But while I was interested in learning Arabic this is how it goes: “Okay, how do you say good morning in Arabic?” The person will pause. I think because they are indexing several dialects in their head. But who...
Saturday we went on a safari and saw a camel, drove a dune buggy, experienced dune bashing, got a henna tatoo and saw a belly dancer.

Fine Print on Twestival
Just read the fine print…
“Partly owing to a time-crunch, there are also various legal issues that restrict charity-based events in Dubai limited only to certain licensed organizations.”
WHAT? So now its just a party to promote Twitter? This was supposed to raise money for clean water. Being a former sorority girl I have to say: can’t we all just agree on a...
